The year is 1960. Elvis is home from the Army. The press and crowds of fans are everywhere from New Jersey to Memphis. He'd been in the army two years and much had happened during that time a time filled with adventure, great joy and deep sorrow. Although offered special privileges before joining the military, Elvis refused them. He served his country just like any other G.I. He was inducted into the US. Army March 24, 1958 at the pinnacle of his fame. The next day, he got his famous G.I. haircut, then went to Texas for basic training. A world-famous entertainer, he never forgot his family and rented a house nearby for them. During this time, his fourth motion picture 'King Creole' opened and would come to be regarded as Elvis finest film and proof that he had true acting talent.

Then in August, Elvis suffered the most overwhelming grief of his life, he lost his mother, Gladys. Elvis would never be the same. Two months later, Elvis was sent to Germany for eighteen months. He shared an off-base residence in Bad Nauheim with his father and grandmother. Through a mutual friend, Elvis met his future wife, Priscilla Beaulieu, the lovely daughter of an Air Force captain. They saw each other constantly until his tour of duty was over. Then, Priscilla wrote to him on the pink stationery he had requested.

Elvis was unsure how he would be received by his fans when he returned to the States. He needn't have worried. He had yet to see his greatest stardom.
