nce upon a time, an enchantress turned a spoiled prince into a beast as punishment for his selfishness. Transforming his servants into Enchanted Objects, the enchantress gave the Beast a magic mirror and enchanted rose. Only if he learned to love someone and earned their love before the last rose petal dropped would the spell be broken. The years passed... Meanwhile, in a nearby village, a beautiful, intelligent girl named Belle yearns for more out of life than marriage to Gaston, the town bully.

Then, one day, their lives intertwine... When Belle's scatterbrained father, Maurice, stumbles upon the Beast's castle and is locked up, Belle takes his place. Her presence sends a glimmer of hope through the gloomy castle. After a rough start, Belle and the Beast become friends. The Beast soon falls in love, but before he can win Belle's heart, she learns that Maurice is ill. Out of love for her, the Beast frees Belle.

Returning home, Belle learns that Gaston has plans to lock Maurice up as a lunatic. When Belle reveals the Beast's existence, Gaston leads a mob attack on the castle. Before Belle can stop Gaston, he plunges a dagger into the Beast's back. Kneeling above the dying Beast, Belle declares her love-and breaks the spell! At last the Beast becomes a handsome prince again with a heart full of love for his lovely Belle.
