The Original Snow Village
When Department 36 introduced Snow Village in 1976, no one realized what would happen during the next twenty years, what began as a line of giftware grew to be one of the most successful collectibles available today.

In 1977, the first six buildings arrived on dealers' shelves. Though not very detailed-many collectors consider them crude when contrasting them to loader's designs- these ceramic buildings captured the hearts of consumers. Each year more designs were introduced, and the number of dealers selling the village continued to grow. In 1979, the first buildings-ten in all-retired, setting the stage for collectible status.

Representing the 1930's and '40's. Snow Village brought back memories to many collectors who saw in it places of their childhood, the church where they got married, or the stores where they shopped, perhaps stores like the Grocery The 1950's and '60's were ushered in with buildings like Dinah's Drive-In the inspired images of dancing at hops and listening
