Department 56 Heritage Village Collection Dickens' Village Series Postern 9871-0

In 1984, Department 56", Inc. first introduced the "Dickens' Village" with a charming set of seven handpainted lit porcelain shops and a simple group of carolers. Reminiscent of the quaint old English villages made famous in the stories of Charles Dickens, this original set of shops went on to Inspire a collectible series that now totals 73 lighted pièces and a wide variety of detailed accessories. These accessories have Included porcelain figures such as shopkeepers, constables, skaters, puppeteers, and costelmongers, the traditional Dickensian street vendors complete with their market carts. In addition, a number of carriages and sleighs have been introduced, from a simple one horse open sleigh to elaborate coaches on which the porcelain carriage is combined with finely cast metal wheels pulled behind a team of porcelain horses.

To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the "Dickens' Village™ Series", Department 56 has issued the "Postern". This porcelain accessory re-creates the rustic village gateways which marked the side entrances to old English townships. The "Postern features a sign displaying the years 1984-1994, commemorating the 10-year anniversary, and a bottom decal with the original series logo, piece title and Department 56 logo
