During Dickens time, blacksmiths were as numerous and as necessary as automobile mechanics are today. While the shop owner of this establishment is primarily a farrier, that is, a person in the business of shoeing horses, he is also proficient at manufacturing tools, household utensils and practical items marked by good design.

Box has wear in the form of crinkles, wrinkles, discoloration, fading, fraying, and staining. The saddle table was broken but is still included.
