Description
A great day of celebration in Mexico is Cinco de Mayo! The fifth of May commemorates the Batalla de Puebla (Battle of Puebla) of 1862 and honors those who fought for freedom and liberty. Today, the festivities occur in Mexico and in parts of the United States of America.
On Cinco de Mayo, Mexican culture and heritage is celebrated in many ways. Streets fill with colorful parades and town squares hold fairs featuring games and rides. Feasts of delicious Mexican food bring family and friends together. Everyone has fun making noise with whistles, rattles, and horns.
"One beautiful dark-haired girl joins the joyous celebrants. The mariachi band plays such wonderful music! She excitedly listens, swaying to the rhythm. Holding her lovely white skirt, she dances the Raspa, proud that she knows the steps so well! This is the most fun Cinco de Mayo ever!
