Helping Our Comunity Into The Future

The Western PA Doll Club, together for many years, through thick and thin, shares common interests and goals. We come from all walks of life: nurses, secretaries, cosmetologists, hair stylists, Girl Scout leaders, auto mechanics, business owners, to Moms and Dads. But we all share two very important qualities, the love of Barbie, and wanting to help others. The WPDC hosted the 1999 convention in Pittsburgh, Pa. The club raised $102,500 for the Latrobe Area Hospital Charitable Foundation. A local community hospital, the foundation distributed the funds throughout various programs. The following year, we organized a program called, "Barbie Dolls with Blankets." This energy program was established to help area families through cold Pennsylvania winters. Through various fundraisers, the WPDC was able to assist over 50 families with $100 credit certificates to be used towards their electric bills, along with a nice, warm blanket. Both of these efforts have been an eye opening experience. We all took stock and are very grateful for what we have. We have been able to help our neighbors that go without.

On To The Future...

As hosts of the 2003 Barbie Doll Collector's Convention, it has meant even more opportunities to help our community.

The monies raised from the convention will be used to help purchase a digital mammography machine for Latrobe Area Hospital. With this state-of-the-art device, women in Latrobe and its surrounding communities will benefit from even earlier detection than from conventional mammography.
This convention will be considered a memorial to all mothers, daughters, wives, sisters, grandmothers, aunts, and dearly loved ones. What better way to help our community and our future than to help save the ones we love so dearly?
