U.S. NATIONAL GUARD

Dating back as early as the 1600's. the United States has kept an army of citizens on call, ready at a moment's notice to take up arms and provide for the common defense of the nation. The Minutemen, whose exploits played a crucial role in America's successful war for independence, represent the spirit of the U.S. heritage: courageous citizens rising up against tremendous adds in the name of freedom. Their spirit continues to exist today within the ranks of the U.S. Army National Guard. It is the largest back-up force of the U.S. Army, comprised of men and women from all walks of life who volunteer to assist the nation in times of distress. With 500,000 plus members, the National Guard represents over 30% of the total Army's strength and over 40% of its combat units. Each unit is prepared at any time to aid the nation in times of combat or distress. They are the heroes first called upon in the event of natural disasters to provide relief to citizens and communities ravaged by catastrophe, Whatever and wherever the occasion might be, the men and women of the National Guard continue to live up to their motto: "Always Ready. Always There."
