Battling the disease-ridden environment of Southwest Asia and a ferocious enemy determined to wipe them out, the Australian Jungle Fighters of World War II bravely distinguished themselves as excellent forward observers and gallant soldier as they gave the Imperial Japanese Army more than it could handle.

While the Allied naval and amphibious forces engaged a sophisticated island-hopping campaign across the Pacific, dedicated Australian forward observers spent months on almost desolate islands, tracking and communicating valuable information about Japanese ship convoy movements and troop deployments. On the battlefront, regular Australian troops met an overwhelming, marauding Japanese combat force in New Guinea and smashed their hopes of conquering the island and establishing a foothold from where they could strike Australia itself. The efforts by Australia's fighting men can never be understated. Their contributions had a tremendous impact on the course of the war in the Pacific Theater in the Allies' march to victory by September 1945.

G.I. Joe Australian Jungle Fighter was deployed for action in 1966 to honor America's brave World War II ally who fought courageously against the Imperial forces of Japan in the hot, sticky jungles of Southwest Asia.
