Description

The Performance Pioneer saga of Vic Edelbrock, Sr. began with the depression dust storms in Kansas, which forced the young man to pack up and move his family to a better life in Southern California. There he discovered his natural abilities in mechanics, plus a flair for modifying flathead Ford motors.

Vic became fascinated with midget racing and the speed trials on the dry lakes in the early thirties. His hopped up black roadster was a consistent winner at pre-WW II events at El Mirage, posting a record of 121.42 mph. During this period he designed and began production of flathead speed equipment, including twin carb manifolds and high compression aluminum heads.

Vic Edelbrock was ready when WW II ended and was one of the first to develop a full line of speed parts for the young but growing performance market. Among his many firsts were the installation of an engine dynamometer, allowing a scientific approach to the research and development of new products, and a warehouse distribution program.

As the fruits of his labor were bearing significant results, Vic Edelbrock, Sr., died in 1961 at the age of 49, a victim of cancer. He was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. The company he founded has, under the leadership of his son, Vic Jr., become one of the biggest and most respected names in the performance industry.
