Description
The German 88mm Flak was originally an antiaircraft weapon. The "88" was one of the most famous weapons of WWII, and several variants were produced. One of them was the Flugzeugabwehrkanone (Flak) 36, which was in its element when serving as an anti-tank cannon. It had a two-piece barrel for easier replacement, and a heavier Sd.Ah.202 carriage that meant it could fire without being emplaced if necessary. The 7.4-tonne gun could be readied for action in just 2.5 minutes. Muzzle velocity was 820m/s and it was particularly deadly against enemy tanks. Entering service in 1936/37, it was commonly fitted with a shield to protect crewmembers when engaging ground targets.
